Step out of the cold in London

With the snow and cold weather in town at the moment here are a few ideas of things to go see inside this week.

Gonzo - An exhibition of private photographs taken of and by the legendary American writer Hunter S. Thompson, on show at the Michael Hoppen Gallery on Jubilee Place in Chelsea. Thompson who shot himself two years ago was known to collect a lot of memorabilia and these photos chronicle his life and work from the 60s onwards. The exhibition is free and runs until the 10th March. The Hoppen Gallery is open 12-6pm Tues-Fri, 10.30am-4pm Sat, Sloane Square is the nearest Tube.

Africa On Screen - I know absolutely nothing about African film making, if you’re the same but want to find out more there’s a season of films playing at three London cinemas, the Curzon Mayfair, the Renoir just around the corner from Russell Square Underground, and the Ritzy on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton featuring African movies from the 1960s onwards. On from the 11 February- 18 March.

Collect - An exhibition of contemporary art objects by 350 top artists from around the world, presented from 41 galleries for this short show at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Its on from 8-12 February and open 11am-5.45pm (8-11 Feb), 11am-4pm (12 Feb), tickets cost £12. The V&A is on the Cromwell Road, South Kensington.

Kylie-The Exhibition - One of Australia’s most successful exports of the last 20 years, this free exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum features Kylie’s stage costumes, memorabilia, photographs and album covers. On from 8 February-10 June.

Lions 3D: Roar Of the Kalahari - A National Geographic produced 3D film of the conflict between competing lions at a water hole in the Kalahari Desert. Showing at the BFI IMAX cinema on Waterloo Road from 9 February-1 May.

Faith and Church: Portraits by Don McCullin - Reknowned British photojournalist Don McCullin famous as a war photgrapher from Vietnam onwards, shows a selection of specially commissioned photos of the leaders and represenatatives of all the major religions in the UK today. The exhibit runs until May 2007 at the National Portrait Gallery in St Martins Place.

London Blues - An exhibition on selected days during February and March at the National Theatre on the South Bank featuring photos of London taken over the last 40 years by photographer Nobby Clark
