Superbowl Sunday in London

miami_xli_sm.jpgIts Superbowl XLI weekend with the Chicago Bears taking on the Indianapolis Colts in the climax to the NFL season. The game kicksoff at around 6.30pm in Miami (11.30pm London time) and here are a few locations in London where American expats or NFL lovers can go to get the big game atmosphere.

Bodean’s BBQ has three London restaurants in Soho, Fulham and Clapham and are holding their third annual Superbowl party. The Soho venue on Poland Street has four 42″ Plasma screens and you’re guaranteed a seat with a clear view if you buy a £25 ticket that includes pre-game and halftime food. They start seating people around 10pm.

Cheers located on Regent Street and naturally based on the tv show is holding a ticket only Superbowl event with what they call a special football menu (lots of pigskin I guess), with tickets costing £12. The bar has two giant and ten regular size tvs.

The Sports Cafe Large venue in the Haymarket off Piccadilly Circus with four super screens, plasma screens and 120 regular size tvs. They normally charge a £5 admission after 10.30pm on weekends, the website doesn’t if its any different for the Superbowl. Very central location and should be busy.

The Walkabout near Temple Tube on the Embankment is having a Superbowl party with cheerleaders (be nice if they where NFL quality). The Walkabout is an Aussie themed chain with three central London venues, Shaftsbury Avenue, Covent Garden and Temple. Tickets for the Superbowl party are £15 on the door.

Belushi’s is a chain of American themed bars with venues in Covent Garden, London Bridge, Camden, Shephard’s Bush and Camden. No information on the website about Superbowl night but they had a World Series party so I imagine something similar will be on for Sunday night.

The Mapleleaf No website but this prominent pub on Maiden Lane in Covent Garden will probably be showing the game even though its a hangout for Canadians.

If you want to watch at home in the UK the game is on both SkySports 1 (10pm) and ITV1 (10.45pm). I’m going to be watching and predict the Bears to win 27-16.
