The BFM International Film Festival


film.jpgThe BFM International Film Festival on at the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) from 7-13 September is a festival showcasing features, shorts, music videos, animation, documentaries, comedies made by black film-makers. The festival has over 20 different screenings with tickets £8 for each film.

The ICA is located at The Mall, London SW1Y 5AH, Map. Here’s the programme of films you can see during the festival week.

7 September - Lumo + Asylum A film about a young woman dealing with the effects of being raped by soldiers in war-torn Congo. Starts 6.30pm.
7 September - Diaspora Diaries A documentary looking at the African communities in London. Starts 8.30pm followed by Q&A with director Robert Asare.
7 September - Daddy’s Little Girls A father tries to win custody of his three daughters. 8.45pm.
8 September - Almost Adult a film about the life of unaccompanied child asylum seekers in the UK. 4pm.
8 September - I’m Through with White Girls Black guy tries dating black girls. 6pm.
8 September - Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars Documentary on a group of musicians who form a band in a refugee camp in Guinea. 8.30pm.
8 September - Are You the Next Hype Williams? Emerging music video directors will screen their work. 8.45pm
9 September - Noel:The Samba Poet Biopic about the life of the greatest samba composer in1930s Rio. 4pm.
9 September - Daddy’s Little Girls 6.15pm.
9 September - Zanzibar Soccer Queens A film about a team of Zanzibari women footballers in a predominantly muslim country. 8.30pm.
9 September - Son of Man + The Preacher The Gospels retold as a tale of corruption and redemption in contemporary Africa. 8.45pm
10 September - Sister’s Keeper An assassin gets caught up in the life of someone he’s sent to kill. 6.30pm.
10 September - A Goat’s Tail A taxi driver in Ghana takes up a British tourist’s casual offer to visit her in the UK but it doesn’t turn out as he was expecting. 8.45pm
10 September - Pick Up the Mic A documentary from the US about the world of gay and lesbian hip hop. 8.45pm.
11 September - 761st Documentary on the first black armoured unit to enter combat in World War II. 6.45pm.
11 September - Crossing Bridges A man trying commit suicide in London is stopped by an angel. 8.30pm.
11 September - Blackout Documentary on life during the 24 hour blackout of electricity in New York in 2003. 8.45pm.
12 September - Darfur Diaries:Message From Home Documentary on the effects of the war in Darfur. 6.30pm.
12 September - Like An Ambassador of His People Documentary on hip hop in Senegal. 8.30pm.
12 September - The Hip Hop Project Documentary about a homeless teenager who founded The Hip Hop Project to work with young at risk New Yorkers. 8.45pm.
13 September - Little Boy Blue shorts Four shorts depicting life for young black men in the UK. 6.15pm.
13 September - Rape For Who I Am Documentary on the lives of lesbians in South Africa. 7.45pm.
13 September - Deadmeat New British gangster film. 8.45pm
13 September - Rent-A-Rasta Documentary from Jamaica about white women sex tourists coming to the island to pick up young ‘rastatutes’. 9.15pm.
