The most expensive musical production ever put on in London’s West End, The Lord of the Rings, gets its official opening next week after a month of previews. Its on at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in Covent Garden and it sounds like getting the stage version together was as much a challenge as the film version was for Peter Jackson.
The £25million production is three hours long and is directed by Matthew Warchus with music by AR Rahman who did Bombay Dreams. Among the leading actors are Malcolm Storry as Gandalf, James Loye as Frodo, Michael Therriault as Gollum, Jerome Pradon as Aragorn and Laura Michelle Kelly as Galadriel.
Its sure to be a popular show and bookings are now being taken until March 2008 with tickets £15-£60. Above is the trailer for the London stage version.
