The Department of Health released figures today saying that drinking one glass of wine a day is hazardous to health. Its part of their ridiculous campaign against drinkers now that smoking’s been banned in public places. They’re aiming it at middle class wine drinkers who probably work very long hours to get what they’ve got and deserve a glass at the end of the day to relax with.
If you like your wine and don’t plan to listen to the DoH’s nonsense you might enjoy The Wine Show happenning next week, 25-28 October, at the Business Design Centre in Islington. The show allows you to sample, taste and buy thousands of different wines from around the world, ask questions of some of the country’s top wine experts, take part in a crash wine tasting course and browse around the dozens of wine related stands.
Among the other features at the show are The Wine Market where you can meet smaller wine producers and retailers and buy their special wines at good prices, the French Wines Experience showing off the best of France’s wine industry, Wine Walks with the Experts where you can be accompanied around the show by one of its panel of wine experts, and Masterwine 2007 where the public can put their wine knowledge against those of the show’s experts to find this year’s Masterwine.
The Wine Show is open 6pm-9pm Thurs, 12noon-5pm and 5pm-9pm Fri, 12noon-9pm Sat and 12noon-5pm Sun. Tickets cost between £10-£16 on the door, with a two for one offer if bought online or over the phone. The Business Design Centre is on Upper Street in Islington with Angel the nearest Tube station.
