For the month of December the BFI Southbank (British Film Institute) is holding a Tim Burton Season, with 15 films directed or written by the eclectic and eccentric American movie maker.
Tim Burton was born in California in 1958 and his first major film was 1985’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. He followed this up shortly afterwards with the horror/comedy Beetlejuice starring the younger versions of Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, then Batman and Batman Returns again with Michael Keaton, three films starring Johnny Depp in the 1990s, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood and Sleepy Hollow, the all-star Mars Attacks! and in the last six years the remake of Planet of the Apes and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, again with Johnny Depp.
The BFI season has all of these and a number of other Burton films has been involved with including The Nightmare Before Christmas. Its a good chance to catch some of the top movies of the last two decades on the big screen with tickets costing £8.60 for individual films. The VFI Southbank is near Waterloo Bridge on the south side of the Thames.
