The annual Trafalgar Square Festival begins this week. Its on from 2-19 August and features music and dance performances starting at 6pm on Thursday evenings, 8pm on Fridays and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. This year’s festival ties in with the 60th anniversary of Indian independence and celebrates the creative connections between London and India with new outdoor commissions from British and Indian companies. This is what you can see in the square over the next three weeks.
2 August - 6pm Shiva Dance by Vena Ramphal combines circus and Indian dance and includes a stunning aerial sequence.
2 August - 6.25pm Londonindia by Heir of Insanity, Niraj Chag and Sapnay School of Dance. Bollywood dance, special effects and high-energy, circus-based performances.

9 August - 6pm Nagarantharan by Attakalari Centre. Bangalore based Attakkalari Centre blends the sights and sounds of a typical Indian street and changes Trafalgar Square into an exciting spectacle.
9 August - 6.40pm JUGGERNAUT - Tara-in-the-Sky! by Tara Arts. Tara Arts creates a powerful theatrical ritual about the relationship between India and Britain.
10 August - 8pm Nagarantharan by Attakalari Centre
10 August - 9pm Bells by Theatre Tol, Naresh Kapuria and Akademi. A collaborative spectacle featuring one of India’s leading artists, Naresh Kapuria.
11 August - 3pm Quick! by Nina Rajarani. Work from award winning choreographer Nina Rajarani.

16 August - 6pm Namastey Trafalgar Square. Taking inspiration from Bollywood movie posters, a giant canvas will be painted live by Mumbai poster painters at the foot of Nelson’s column providing the backdrop for a performance combining London based choreographer Joan Pires, composer Niraj Chag and the French aerial company Les Passagers.
