The Collins Stewart London Boat Show On at ExCel London from 5-14 January featuring hundreds of stands and exhibits on the latest boats and watercraft. Special features include a Fog Tunnel where you can learn how to navigate in fog and Anchor Watch, a structure where you can find out the correct way to anchor and how to free yourself from different situations. Tickets cost £12.50 advance, £14 on the door. It’s open 10am-7pm(10am-9pm,11 January).

London Fair at Hyde Park Running until 7 January in one of London’s biggest parks, this event features rides and attractions for kids and adults. Its open daily from 1pm-10.30pm. Hyde Park Corner is the nearest tube.

Halloween Short Film Festival A short film festival on at the ICA(Institute of Comtemporary Arts), Curzon Soho and the Roxy from 6-15 January featuring quirky and off the wall short films as well as live music acts. Your chance to see movies that will never play at the local multiplex.

The Snowman If you have kids with you and need a show that will keep them entertained for a while why not try the Sadler’s Wells production of The Snowman on at the Peacock Theatre in Holborn until 7 January. Ten performances remain between now and Sunday, most in the afternoon, tickets cost between £12-£30. Angel is the nearest tube station.

Twelfth Night Celebration A free event performed by the Lions part actors group on Bankside near to the Globe Theatre featuring music, storytelling and ancient seasonal customs mixed with regular festive rituals. Sure to draw a crowd to the river side, it starts at 2.45pm on Saturday 6 January. The Globe is next to Tate Modern on the south bank of the Thames.

Piccadilly Line Centenary Exhibition If you’ve ever flown into Heathrow Airport chances are you’ve ridden the Piccadilly Line into central London. Its now been open for 100 years and City Hall has an exhibition marking the occasion taking place in the Chamber lobby, running from 3-26 January. City Hall is on the south bank close to Tower Bridge.
