The Barbican 25th Birthday Film Season As part of the Barbican Art Centre’s 25th anniversary this year they’re having short season of films chosen by audiences at the Barbican from the top 25 films in Halliwell’s Top 1000 films published by Harper Collins. The top 25 have all been shown at the Barbican at some time since 1982 and the audiences picked a top ten from that list with The Third Man starring Orson Welles the top pick. The films will be shown from 1-10 March and the full ten films are The Third Man, Singin’ In The Rain, Les Enfants Du Paradis, Some Like It Hot, The Godfather Part 1, 2 and 3, Taxi Driver, The Seven Samurai, Vertigo, Dr Strangelove and Toy Story. Full times and dates are on their website, the Barbican is in the City of London and the nearest Tubes are Barbican or Moorgate.
Work, Play and no Rest Julio Osorio is a Colombian born photographer who spent 17 years growing up in England. When he returned to Colombia he realised the difference in lifestyle and oppurtunities available to kids in poorer countries and wanted to document this with his photos. Work, Play and no Rest is a new limited edition book and exhibition of pictures he’s taken of the lives of children in Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela and South African townships. The exhibition is on from 26 Feb-4 March at The Spitz Gallery, Commercial Street at Old Spitalfields Market. Its open 12-5pm Mon-Sat, 11am-5pm Sun and admission is free.
Form London is a show that describes itself as ‘a new exhibition bringing together modern and contemporary art, design, photography, ceramics, sculpture and jewellery to create a dynamic showcase that invites you to see and buy unique elements for a modern home.’ It features over a 100 exhibitors at London’s Olympia and is on from 1-4 March, tickets are £10 on the door.
The Fratellis, winner of the Best British Breakthrough Act at the 2007 Brits play four gigs at the Brixton Academy from 2-5 March, touring their debut album Costello Music. The Kaiser Chiefs, voted Best Live Act at last years Brits, do their stuff for three nights at the Shepherds Bush Empire, 2-4 March, tickets £25.
Film London on Location A free photographic exhibition at London’s City Hall featuring original photos of film locations in London and stills from the films made there. On until 8th March, open from 8am-8pm, Mon-Fri. City Hall’s on the south bank close to Tower Bridge.
