Christmas Past: 400 Years of Seasonal Traditions in English Homes The Geffrye Museum in Shoreditch looks at how Britain’s Christmas traditions developed from kissing under the mistletoe to decorating the tree. The museum is free to enter and the exhibition runs from 28 November to 7 January. The nearest tubes are Liverpool Street or Old Street.
Palace Dreams An event on 29 November at Crystal Palace to mark the 70th anniversary of it being destroyed by fire in 1936. This is a free show starting 6pm featuring fireworks, aerial performers, music and a lighting show. The nearest train station is Crystal Palace and its a short walk from there.
VIP Shopping Day On Saturday 2 December Oxford Street and Regent Street, the two of the biggest shopping streets in London, will be closed to all traffic. As well as the pedestrianised streets they’ll be over 100 Christmas shows featuring comic, musical and theatrical performances. These two streets have about 600 shops and many will be offering free champagne, mulled wine, eggnog, canapes, mince pies and more. They’ll also be a Santa with six real reindeer. The West End Red Caps will be around to offer advice on what’s on. The roads close at 11am.
Eco Design Christmas Fair If you’re looking for ‘ethically’ produced or green gifts for Christmas this show is on at Cecil Sharp House in Camden on Saturday 2 December, from 11am-5pm and entry costs £1.
Greenwich Christmas Market The switching on of Greenwich Market’s Christmas lights takes place on 1 December at 5.30pm. Between 3-7pm there will be music and entertainment events going on.
The Christmas market will run from 1-3 December, 7-24 December and 28-31 December from 10am-5.30pm each day.
Bulleit Frontier Live Music Sessions Taking place at Brick Lane’s Vibe Bar, live music from various acts including Alabama 3 who are responsable for the Sopranos theme, great song. On 30 November between 7.30-11pm and its free to attend.
