If you like trying to catch a glimpse of movie stars or even have them photograph you on your mobile phone and say hi to your mum, January offers a few big film premieres in London where that could be a possibility.
First up next Tuesday, 16 January at the Vue Cinema in Leicester Square is Rocky Balboa, where Rocky comes out of the retirement home to whip the young heavyweight champ. The trailer looks good, one to go and see. Sylvester Stallone will be on hand to take the plaudits, in fact if you want to see him before hand, get up to the Everton v Reading Premiership match this Sunday afternoon, he’s going to be paraded on the pitch before the game. Sounds like a bizarre combination but one of his business partners is an Everton shareholder.
Crowds start to build in Leicester Square from 3pm onwards.
On Sunday 21 January, Beyonce, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx roll into town for the red carpet treatment at the Odeon Leicester Sqaure for the UK premiere of Dreamgirls, the film loosely based on The Supremes, with Beyonce and pals forming a singing group in the 60s and 70s. I think this one will attract a big crowd so get to the Square early if you want a good view.
On Tuesday 23 January Leicester Square also hosts the UK premiere of Leonardo DiCaprio’s new film Blood Diamond , about a mercenary from Zimbabwe(DiCaprio) on the trail of a rare diamond in Sierra Leone. Looks pretty good but Leonardo’s accent sounds very Sed Eff-re-ken. Not too many Boers in Zimbabwe Leo. Djimon Hounsou and Jennifer Connelly also star in it.
Leicester Square can normally accomodate about 4-5,000 fans for premieres and the barriers will go up early in the afternoon, nearest tube is Leicester Sq.
