One of the most unique carnival funfairs in the UK is going to be at various locations around London in the next month or so. Carters Steam Fair features attractions and rides that were built as far back as the 1890s and have been painstakingly restored, although the majority seem to be from the 1920s onwards.
Classic rides include such names as Chair-O-Planes built in the 1920s, Octopus (1961), Victory Dive Bomber (1958), Steam Yachts (1921), Jungle Thriller Ark (1930s) and many more along with a series of vintage stalls where you can win prizes.
Carters Steam Fair tours SouthEast England for seven months of the year and spends the other five months on the restoration and repair. You can see the results of their efforts this weekend 18-19 August at Battersea Park on the south bank of the Thames. If you can’t make that they’re in Victoria Park in Hackney from 24-27 August and Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith from 1-2 September.
