iwm1.jpgLondon’s Imperial War Museum has opened a major new exhibition this month called Weapons of Mass Communication featuring hundreds of the most iconic and eye catching war related posters of the twentieth century.

It shows how designers used posters in the first part of the century to influence people to join the armed forces and support various wars, and how later they were used by the anti-Vietnam War movement and peace activists.

Among the posters on display are the famous Lord Kitchener recruitment poster for the British Army designed by Alfred Leete and work by other influential designers such as Julius Gipkins, Abram Games, Peter Kennard and David Gentleman.

Weapons of Mass Communication is on until 30 March 2008 and admission is free. The Imperial War Museum is open daily from 10am-6pm and is located in Lambeth North about ten minutes from Westminster Bridge. Map
