The Royal Albert Hall is generally known as a fantastic venue for music and concerts but this week it will be staging one of its occasional sporting events when the BlackRock Masters Tennis tournament takes place from 4-9 December.

Its the season ending event of the BlackRock Tour of Champions and features a field of 12 including the top seven players on the tour rankings plus five wild cards. To play on the BlackRock Tour a player must no longer be active on the ATP Tour and have either been ranked number 1 in the world, a singles finalist in a Grand Slam championship or a singles player on a winning Davis Cup team.

The 12 players are split into four groups of three and the first two days are a series of round robin matches followed by the quarterfinals on Friday, the semis on Saturday and the final on Sunday. Among the players taking part this time are John McEnroe, Michael Stich, Pat Cash, Stefan Edberg, Tim Henman, Henri Leconte, Anders Jarryd, Wayne Ferreira and Goran Ivanisevic.

Tickets for the tournament range from £25-£95 with restricted view seating priced £7-£30. The Royal Albert Hall is located on the south side of Hyde Park on Kensington Gore, with Knightsbridge and High Street Kensington the nearest Tubes. Map

Hi there,

sad to see that you don’t mention Paul Haarhuis as one of the 12 players at the BlackRock masters 2007. He won it the last two times and did it again today. You already mention nine of them, why not all 12?

Please don’t make that mistake again next year….haha

You’re right Pieter, well done Paul Haarhuis, 41 years old and still got it, and he’s from your neck of the woods.

For anybody else here’s a BBCSport report on the final result.
