London Summer of Sport

sport.jpgThe second London Summer of Sport is being launched next week, sponored by the National Lottery, Sport England and the Mayor of London. The aims are to increase participation in sport and greater physical activity in the population in the run up to the 2012 London Olympics.

The Summer of Sport features demonstration, participation and coaching events across 17 sports including Basketball, Cricket, Football, Gymanstics, Martial Arts, Rugby, Tennis and Volleyball, for people of all ages and spread out across various locations in London. Almost all of these sports events are free to take part in and different ones will be happening until September 2007. The website has what’s available listed by sport or location.

The launch event takes place on 2 June at the Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre on Adelaide Road, just north of the Primrose Hill area. It runs from 9am-4pm and will be opened by the Mayor of London and Sport England. Free events anyone can try on the day include trying the climbing wall, Basketball, African Dance Workouts, Pilates, Yoga, Swimming, Kickboxing and many other activities, you just need to turn dressed to take part in sport.
