The NFL has announced that London will host a regular season game in each of the next three years with the 2008 game being the New Orleans Saints v San Diego Chargers taking place at Wembley Stadium on 26 October.
Last October Wembley staged the first regular season NFL game outside of North America when the New York Giants played the Miami Dolphins and that game sold out in record time so there’s clearly a market for the sport in the UK. Tickets aren’t yet available for this autumn’s game but anyone interested in buying one should register on the NFLUK website.
Today is also SuperBowl Sunday with the New England Patriots attempting to make history by beating the New York Giants and finishing the season undefeated with a perfect 19-0 record. The game is being played in Phoenix, Arizona and kicksoff around 11.30pm UK time.
If you’re planning to stay up late and watch what should be a classic encounter, its being shown live on BBC2 and SkySports. Bars in central London that are holding Super Bowl parties include the Sports Cafe on the Haymarket and the Hard Rock Cafe near Hyde Park Corner. Both these venues will have cover charges and will probably be very busy.
