midsevens.jpgTwickenham rugby stadium hosts the annual Middlesex Rugby Sevens tournament this coming Saturday 18 August. Rugby Union is a game played between teams of 15 players over 80 minutes, Sevens as the name suggests is played by teams of seven with games lasting between 14-20 minutes although they are still played on the full size pitch. This means they’re all action requiring the players to have stamina, lots of speed and good ball handling skills.

Sevens tournaments take place all over the world and are very popular with the two-day Hong Kong Sevens probably being the most famous. The Middlesex Sevens is an invitation event and this year features teams representing each of the 12 clubs in the Guinness Premiership, the top division in English club rugby.

Tickets for the Middlesex Sevens cost £30 adults, £15 children. The first game of the day kicksoff at 10.45 am and the final scheduled for 5.55pm.

Each team will play two games with the eight with the best aggregate records progressing to knockout quarterfinals, semifinals and final. The final is normally played over ten minute halves with the other games lasting seven minutes each half. Twickenham seats 82,000 and is in west London with Richmond and Hounslow East the nearest Tubes and Twickenham (from Waterloo) the closest train station. Map
