NFL heading for London

London’s gearing up for the arrival of the regular season NFL with the game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants taking place at Wembley Stadium on 28 October. It’s a 90,000 sellout and if they had a bigger stadium they could have easily filled that, half a million people applied for tickets.

Champions League fixtures

The draw for the group stages of the Champions League was made today with two London clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea, both involved. Arsenal got a pretty comfortable group with Sevilla or AEK Athens, Steaua Bucharest and Slavia Prague while Chelsea’s shouldn’t be overly difficult with them playing Valencia, Schalke 04 and Rosenborg.

Now that SkySports and Setanta have picked the first round of Premiership games they want to televise live this season the schedule has been rearranged and shouldn’t be effected by Cup games until the New Year, although after November the tv companies will probably move some more Premiership games to times that suit them. This Saturday is the FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester United at the new Wembley Stadium and London’s Unicorn Children’s Theatre is starting a short run of a play called Billy the Kid to tie in with the final.

Chelsea are at home tomorrow to Tottenham in a big London derby that is important to both teams. The club seems to have gone all politicially correct and lost their sense of humour though, because they’ve been warning their fans on the Chelsea website against making ‘anti-semitic’ chants against Tottenham fans.
