The case of the former Russian KGB colonel Alexander Litvinenko, who was exiled in London and poisoned with radioactive Polonium-210 gets bigger by the day.
He died in hospital last week after becoming ill at the beginning of the month and the stuff that killed him is only produced by large scale nuclear reactors, so the finger points strongly to the Russians and he himself before he died absolutely said his former pals were behind it.
A sushi bar( Itsu) in Piccadilly, where Litvinenko had eaten, was closed and decontaminated after traces were found there. At least half a dozen other locations in London including Litvinenko’s home and the Millennium Hotel in Grosvenor Square had small quantities of radioactive material in them.
Now traces of the same stuff have been found on 3 British Airways planes that made 221 flights to various locations around Europe including Moscow, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Stockholm and others, and the airline is trying to contact up to 33,000 passengers.
Here’s the latest update from the Health Protection Agency, the general advice is to initially call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 if you have concerns about coming into contact with this stuff or Litvinenko.
Tony Blair’s in Latvia at a Nato summit, maybe he could swing by Moscow on the way back and ask Mr Putin why his boys can’t use a bullet like everyone else.
