Earthquake

Another earthquake off northwest Sumatra tonight, this one 8.2.
Initial reports suggest there hasn’t been a tsunami this time. Its a coincidence that the BBC had a prime time show on the anatomy of the 2004 tsunami last night.
Every time I hear about an earthquake near Indonesia now my initial thought is how close is it to Bali. Hopefully no casualties and little damage from this latest one but I bet people’s nerves are in a bad way.

No damage here in Bali. Actually I think people living in third world countries react diferently to disasters. People here seem resigned to the fact that things can happen, and as long as it doesn’t happen to them no worries.

In Nepal I saw a bus accident where the bus roled down a cliff and many people were killed. The survirors weren’t crying, screaming, jumping up and down, they were sitting by the side of the road waiting for a ride.

I also think apart from the tv news most people don’t get to into the ‘how’s’ of why things happen, just the effects.

Glad to hear Bali’s safe and sound, although listening to geologists on the news they’re predicting further quakes along the length of the Sumatra fault. With luck you won’t get one to close.
