England, England's

number one, England's, number one.

So it’s farewell David Seaman, Arsenal’s goalkeeper who has signed a one year contract with Manchester City. Seaman will be 40 in September and has had a brillant career with Arsenal, but didn’t want to spend time on the bench next season so has opted for one last year as City’s main man.

His leaving just about brings to a close the reminders of the successful George Graham Arsenal teams of the late 80’s and early 90’s. Martin Keown (debut 1985) and Ray Parlour are really the last Graham era players left.

So thanks for the memories David, it’s hard to see the next guy lasting so long.

So who is the next guy? And is he any good?

I remember Alex Manninger was Arsenal’s #2 for awhile and came in while Seaman was injured and played like a champ. Heard he’s lost form though and I don’t know if he’s still at the club.

Maybe Pat Jennings can step in again if he’s not doing anything.

Alex Manninger played fantastic when Arsenal won the championship in 1998, but didn’t hold his form and the last time I saw him he was playing in Italy somewhere.

The new guy? A few names are being batted about, Santiago Canizares of Valencia, the Turkish World Cup keeper Recber.
Problem is Arsenal have a big cashflow problem right, trying to build a new stadium and get new players, something has to give.
