If you build it, they will come

wembley.jpgEngland still waits for a new national football stadium seven years after the old Wembley closed. But there may be light at the end of the construction tunnel after the Football Asociation said today that the new Wembley will be open to local residents of Brent in March for a community day, and a chance for the contractors to see if what they’ve been working on stands up to the rowdy British public.

Up to 20,000 people will be allowed in and will be involved in testing the stadiums turnstile, escalator and toilet systems, nice. I think football fans will believe Wembley is ready only once a game has been played there, it was scheduled to be open in 2005 but the cost and date of completion have only increased. It was a nailed on certainty to open last May, but that came and went and the Football Association have been reluctant to name a date for the official opening.

The latest penciled in showpiece opener is the FA Cup Final on 19 May. Its taken a long while and £750milllion+ and counting but London should hopefully soon have a new 90,000 state of the art stadium. The pictures that have been released of it do look good and fans will definitely want to go to a game there, its a shame so many of the seats are corporate.
