img_rollersoccer.jpgWhat does the weekend hold in London for the sports fan who wants to catch some live action? Well on the football front there are four Premiership games in the capital on Saturday afternoon, Watford have an early (12.45) kickoff against Liverpool at Vicarage Road. With Liverpool still groggy from two beatings by Arsenal last week Watford have a shot.

Charlton play Middlesbrough at the Valley and Chelsea take on Wigan at Stamford Bridge, both 3pm starts. Also at 3 o’clock there’s a London derby between West Ham and Fulham at Upton Park. Watford, Charlton and West Ham are currently the three bottom teams in the Premiership and if it stays that way until the end of the season London’s seven Premiership teams will be down to four.

Also on Saturday in League One there’s a London derby between Brentford and Leyton Orient at Griffin Park, and Barnet play Macclesfield at Underhill in League Two, both kickoff at 3pm.
On Sunday afternoon at 4pm Tottenham play Newcastle at White Hart Lane, two very poor teams in action.

In Rugby Union its a European weekend for the major clubs. On Saturday afternoon London Irish face Toulouse at home in a 1.35pm kickoff and Wasps play Perpignan at 3.30pm, both in the Heineken Cup. On Sunday Saracens have a home game against Narbonne in the European Challenge Cup, the second tier European competition. Kickoff 3pm at Watford’s Vicarge Road Stadium.

If you’re a fan of the green baize, the Masters Snooker tournament starts on Sunday at Wembley Arena. The competition runs from 14-21 January. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket and want to have a bet on the horses, Kempton Park, near the Thames southeast of Heathrow Airport, has racing Saturday and Sunday. They have National Hunt(Steeplechasing) racing on Saturday, first race 12.30pm and flat racing Sunday, first race 1pm.
