Portugal 1-2 Greece

This Portuguese fan is going to have to find a little more room in his belly for some wine to ease the pain of both that sunburn and Portugal’s lose in the Euro 2004 opener.

After waiting years to get a major tournament, building a bunch of new stadiums and putting on the opening show, the countries footballers couldn’t handle the pressure.

Greece were a soild, disciplined, hard working side, but nothing special. Unfortunately after setting the Greeks up for an early goal, Portugal did what they did back in the World Cup against the US and Korea, complained a lot to the referee, stared up at heaven and gave plenty of shoulder shrugs instead of raising their game and dominating Greece.

If Portugal lose on Wednesday to Russia they can’t qualify for the next round, it could be a long month of watching for the home team.
