What a game, what a let down.
England did their usual trick of suckering the nation into believing they were going to win a tournament, getting everybody so pumped up over the last two weeks that when the inevitable agonising defeat arrived last night it was going to be so deflating.
You can’t say England deserved to win the match, after taking an early lead wonderboy Rooney went off with a broken bone in his foot and England ran out of ideas and spent the next hour and a half fending off Portuguese attacks.
Everybody is saying the goal Sol Campbell scored in the 89th minute was a fair goal, but I think you have to be a one eyed England fan if you can’t see John Terry with his arm over the goalkeepers shoulder and round his neck.
I’ve heard so many ex-players and fans say the keeper never jumped but how could he with 6′3 Terry leaning all over him.
Referee Urs Meier is getting a lot of the blame and one supermarket chain is offering free eye tests to Swiss people.
Euro 2004 has finally shown people what David Beckham is, very average as a footballer, his biggest contribution has been to miss crucial penalties against France and Portugal, other than that he’s been anonymous.
Two years should be enough time for fans to get over this and build expectations up to new highs, just in time for World Cup 2006 in Germany.

And if Becks scored a glorious free kick in the last minute of extra time? Wonder-boy, captain fantastic. You people all base your lowly opinions on one or two incidents. Go look at the player stats. Average footballer indeed.
Beckham’s game has always been about three things, hitting a good dead ball, putting in a good cross and work rate.
In this championship he hasn’t delivered either of the first two and let Gary Neville do his running down the right.
To me the adulation Beckham gets has always been more about his off field image, the haircuts, the Spice Girl wife and how they’ve used that for all its worth.
In purely football terms he’s a good player, not a great one.
Real Madrid want to sell Beckham, because Camacho donīt want him, but there are some difficulties:
Mourinho in Chelsea donīt want the player.
Manchester donīt want the player.
I think Qatar or Japan are good places to him.
It is time to put, in the English Team, Football Players and not marketing players.

Chris i agree with you about Beckham. Set pieces brill, passing brill, going pass players no good. Yes agreed he has at times ran himself ragged (qualifying game against Greece a few years back) and gave 100 %. But and i quote but, why did he play in the Euro Championship when he admitted he wasnt fit himself. It didnt take a Rocket Scientist to work that out looking at him during the games….jaded and knackered are words that spring to mind.
Now reaching 30 soon having reached his Superstar Status and with all the wealth that has brought there is absolutely no doubt he has no hunger any more. Now come on folks how can he be Captain of England with that soft poofey voice…..what we need is a commanding loud agressive and at em attitude type bloke like the England rugby teams Martin Johnson who when the teams dropping its eads growls and shouts at them to get their fucckin heads up and get about them !
Yes Chris your quite right 2 yrs gives us enough time to build the team up as if they have already got to the final only to be knocked off the pedestal again.
p.s.
Why does the meadia/public and all always look 2 games ahead with England … when we have just got through the group stages its a case of who they could be playing in the Semis or the finals…just bloody arrogance if you ask me !
Beckham has blamed Real Madrid for not training as hard as Man.Utd, but he’s pissed off Real president Florentino Perez in doing so.
The Real players complained they were being over trained before Christmas and Perez says Beckham didn’t train at all during the winter break and spent too much time during the season shuttling between London and Madrid.
Beckham really needs to knuckle down in Madrid before the new season.

I can imagine how the press and the general public have been over the denied goal.
Here in Bali I was sitting in front of a group of people from Docklands during the FA Cup Final. As you might guess every foul from Denis Wise was a ‘perfectly good tackle’ and every Millwall fall in the opposite penalty area was a ‘PENALTY!!!’.
