Slip of the tongue

The politically correct brigade have got a full head of steam up during the last 24 hours over what Ron Atkinson said after commentating on the Monaco-Chelsea game.

Calling Marcel Desailly a ‘fucking lazy thick nigger’ is not the nicest thing he could have said, but Big Ron is now being painted as some kind of redneck or goose stepping racist.
I heard him being interviewed today and listened to former black players come on the radio to support him and I believe Ron’s explaination that after ITV switched back to the studio he took off his headphones and mic, thought he was off the air and said what he said in frustration watching reruns from the game not realising there was an open mic in the booth.

After the way Chelsea fell apart in the second half I’m sure there were millions of people watching at home throwing various insults at the tv, heat of the moment stuff.
Now the media is full of ‘he’s put football back twenty years’, ‘he’s introduced kids to the word nigger’. No he hasn’t, most kids have a rack full of rap cd’s where the word is spouted all the way through.

He’s a good commentator and nice guy, who’s made a mistake and is paying for it by losing two jobs, not this bigoted, racist maniac some people are trying to imply.
