The nominations for this years PFA(Professional Footballers Association) awards have come out and there’s not a lot of difference from the lineup last season.
Six nominees, five English, one foreign which seems a little strange with all the overseas players in the Premiership.
The full list is John Terry, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole from Chelsea, Steven Gerrard of Liverpool, Wayne Rooney, Man.United and Thierry Henry from the mighty Arsenal.
These are the awards that the players themselves vote for so you always wonder how much personality rather than playing ability comes into the voting.
I don’t actually think anyone of these players has a had a career defining season, and Frank Lampard has been a fraction of the brillant player he was last season. Joe Cole and John Terry have been solid all year, and Chelsea will be champions again but neither has pulled up any trees.
Again with Henry, Gerrard and Rooney they’ve all been consistent 8/10’s but there’s no one who’s totally dominated the year and just raised their game to another level.
I think Rooney will get it in the end. The players will want to send him off to the World Cup fully pumped up and ready to lead England’s charge.
You can follow the antics of Roooo-ney and the England boys at Bootsnall’s brillant Worldcupblog where Shawn is documenting the build up to the tournament and Wayne’s winning ways with the bookies.
