There’s a friendly football match taking place in London on the 14th November. The Socceroos of Australia will be taking on the Black Stars of Ghana in an all or nothing or maybe a it means nothing game at Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road Ground.
I was in Munich and Nuremberg during the World Cup when these teams played in those cities and they’ve each got some interesting fans and both have big expat communities in London. We all know there are thousands of Aussies in the capital but there are also stacks of Ghanians and they’re well established in London.
The game itself could actually be pretty good. I’d expect it to be a sellout, its in an easy location to get to in west London, the teams are fairly evenly ranked by FIFA at the moment Ghana 25 and Australia 37 in the world. Their styles will contrast but that normally makes for a good game.
The season in England and Europe will be about three months old and players should be really getting into their stride by now, Chelsea’s Michael Essien has been outstanding so far for his club and with a fullhouse of very noisy Aussies and Ghanians I don’t think the players will be sitting back.
The game kicksoff at 7.45pm on Tuesday 14 November, at Loftus Road, Shephard’s Bush, tickets cost £15/20/25 and either call the QPR box office on 0870-1121967 or ticketmaster on 0870-1696874
