Another case of sports bonkers eligibility rules, Ronaldo has been granted Spanish citizenship and Roberto Carlos will get his next year.
They’re both Brazilian, both will play for Brazil in the World Cup in June and I’m sure they’ll be retiring to the Copacabana when their career’s wind up, but clubs in Europe are only allowed three non-Europeans in their teams so from now on Ronaldo’s a European, what a joke.
Brazil won’t be the only country at the World Cup with Brazilians in their team. Portugal, Tunisia, Japan and possibly Togo will all have players from there in their squads.
