With people out enjoying themselves more than usual over the Christmas period, getting home from central London is something you should think about before you get too wasted, especially if your a woman on your own.

The story currently dominating the news over here is of the serial killer in Ipswich who’s killed five prostitutes in about ten days. Single woman looking for a cab in London need to be really aware of just who’s car they get into after a night out. As part of the London Assembly’s Safer Travel at Night campaign there’s a service called CABWISE which is a text messeage service that sends you the numbers of one black cab and two licenced minicab companies to choose from.

Around the West End late at night you’ll see plenty of characters scouting for business amongst the people falling out of clubs and bars. A lot of these will just be guys with a car trying to make some quick money. They won’t be licenced, the car might be a wreck and no ones checking what they charge and more than likely they’ll be an immigrant or asylum seeker after a fast buck, who doesn’t really know where he’s going.

The CABWISE website says 10 women a month in London get raped by guys pretending to be cab drivers, for females out on the town if you can’t go home with a friend at least try and make sure the car you get into is legit.
