* Nelson Mandela statue to be erected in Parliament Square opposite the Houses of Parliament. Why, would be my question. He did great things for South Africa, why does that need a statue in London? The mayor’s raving about it but you know the one he really wants erected is one of Fidel Castro.(BBCNews)

* British vineyards had one of their best ever harvests last year due to ‘perfect’ weather conditions in 2006. Kent and Sussex are the new South of France.(Telegraph)

* Well known piece of graffiti ‘art’ whitewashed off the walls of Old Street station after five years.(EveningStandard)

* New immigration rules will make it harder for unskilled workers from outside the EU to move to Britain from next year.(TheIndependent)

* The Marine Conservation Society says Britain’s beaches are getting dirtier and the amount of seaside litter has increased by over 90% since 1994.(ITVNews)
