There’s literally no escape from expensive travel in London. With the price of using the crowded public transport going up, the congestion charge at £8(soon to be £25 for larger cars), and the bombings of July 2005, many people started commuting into central London on motorbikes and motorscooters.
They were exempt from the congestion charge, were quicker than bicycles, weren’t the targets of suicide bombers and caused less pollution than cars which sounds like a good deal all round. Now Westminster Council has decided bike riders are a cash cow ready for milking and are going to charge £1.50 per day to park a motorcycle on the street. Their excuse is that all the money is needed to provide more parking spaces for bikes. What about the space that the cars used to occupy.
As sure as night follows day all the other councils will jump on this idea. I really believe if everybody walked all the way into London they’d start charging £3 a day for damage to the sidewalk.
