The price of bricks and mortar in the UK

house.jpgA new report has been released on the most expensive streets in Britain, compiled from Land Registry sale price statistics. Probably unsurprisngly 45 of the 50 most expensive streets in the country are in London and the other five are close by in the South East.

Within the capital one borough, Kensington and Chelsea, accounts for 16 of the top 20 costliest streets and the number one street, Kensington Square, has an average price of £5,534,480 (US$10,790,0000).

Despite London’s property prices being the highest across the board the report says the South East is the poorest performing region for house value increases since 2000, saying London homes have only gone up by 82.4% (only) since then compared to North East England where prices have risen by 144.6% since 2000. With the average price of a house on the whole of London now getting close to £300,000 you wonder if these huge increases can go on, but if you’re an owner its all looking good.
