The special one Jose Mourinho has been displaying his enormous modesty ahead of the Carling Cup final on Sunday against London rivals Arsenal. And he’s obviously not the type of coach who believe’s the old adage ‘there’s no I in team’.
Speaking at his press conference Mourinho said ‘Yes, I think I am a great manager. Not many did what I did.’
About his time with Porto and the club’s success, ‘Nobody had done it in the history of Portuguese football, so I am the best in the history of my country.’
And his time with Chelsea, ‘I came to England and won the title with Chelsea 50 years after they last won it. I was the first to win the title in the first year in the club. I won it twice. I won other competitions. I have a few records in the Premiership, I think. Records for victories or goals or not conceding goals, or something like that.’
He ran out of time before he could say ‘I have had more money to spend on players than any coach in history’ or ‘it’s really all down to the team’. Maybe next time.
