All the news here right now is about Iraq. President Bush is meant to go on tv in the US tonight and after that the war could start at any moment, I wouldn’t be surprised to wake up tomorrow morning to hear the first strikes have gone in.
Robin Cook, another high profile member of Tony Blair’s Labour party, quit his job today over going to war without the UN resolution. He’s probably the first of quite a few Labour politicans who will start postioning themselves to get rid Blair once the main fighting in Iraq is complete.
I think the French position on Iraq will have the side effect of really hardening public opinion in Britain against joining the Euro single currency. There was talk of having a referendum on joining in the next year but I think there’s zero chance of the government getting a yes vote now.
