Cross country,again

At last Labour may have seen the error of their ways when it comes to sport in schools.
After twenty five years of their policy that if little Johnny loses a game or match he’ll be scarred for life so lets not play the game, it seems its dawned on them that if you want competitive international sportsmen you have to start winning and losing at an early age.

Sport in British schools has always been poorly funded and organised, dependent more on some eager teacher of another subject to step in and give up their time to take a class than having dedicated sports teachers and coaches.

You can just imagine the most athletic kid at the ‘non-competitive’ sports day going overseas and entering a sporting event….whollop!!!!!

Non-competitive sports - another oxymoron. Then there is intense competition for 5, 6- and 7-year olds - a bit nasty, where the parents get enthusiastically involved to the point where they diminish any enthusiasm.

Sports is competition and not for everyone.
