Use a work computer for surfing the net or email? Well the crafty government have tagged some legislation onto March’s Budget that makes personal use of a company computer a ‘taxable benefit’ and the employer and his staff could both have to pay.
Its part of the Finance Bill and HM Revenue and Customs are advising employers that they will have ‘to produce a clear policy against employees using company computers for their own private use, which would have to be enforced by reasonable checks’.
David Reynolds, of the Independent Association of Accountants Information Technology Consultants is quoted as saying ‘This law could apply to every employee who uses a computer who is allowed personal use. The onus will be on employers to show that their staff are not using them personally.’
Great, you use a computer at work for a few minutes a day and these greedy bastards at the Treasury want to squeeze more money out of you.
Just another day closer to when they tax us for the air we breath.

Its moronic. The government wants its hands in people’s private life AND work life.
A companies computers and internet connection are its own business, not Tony Blair’s. Its amazing how nice British people are, putting up with the stuff they have to. High taxation, low wages, high immigration, lousy services and a governement, National and local, that tries every trick in the book, to rob people who still have the gumption to get up every morning and throw a spear.
Take my advice. Leave
