Fill up at the tap

My flatmate Priya sent me a link to this site, earth2012, that an ex-colleague of hers has left his job to work fulltime on.

It’s an environmental site that looks like its in its early stages but one project they’re working on is a water fuelled car.
This they want to achieve by braking down water to hydrogen and oxygen and using the hydrogen as fuel.
The technology they develope will be patent free and available to anyone to use.
Sounds like a worthwhile project.

I have read about a liquid hydrogen powerfed car that produces water as its only byproduct. I say great to these ideas and hope they get implemented soon. Problem is so much of our infrastructure uses oil and oil packs a lot of energy and is relatively cheap.

The car you talk about is BMW’s hydrogen car. Problem is that all petrol station would need to be converted to make it possible to tank hydrogen. And who will supply the hydrogen? Right, the oil companies. So who will pay for all of this at the end? The consumer.
There is an easier way using Earth 2012’s solution: you could user water from the tap, much cheaper than oil!

To the previous people, no this is a different concept that would only require water, provided they can somehow solve the pesky problem caused by the first law of thermodynamics (can’t get more energy out than is originally put in).
