Like most big cities London has quite a large free press on offer to people. Pretty much every suburban area will have its own free local newspaper delivered, I get two where I live, but there are also a large number of different titles available outside most central London underground stations that are aimed at travellers or people on extended stays.
Today I picked up a selection near Baker Street station, here’s what was in the racks.
TNT A big thick, weekly magazine primarily aimed at Aussies, Kiwis and South Africans. News and sport from those countries, music and entertainment reviews, clubbing guide and jobs and accomodation listings. Lots of ads but most are relevant to travellers and what they’re up to.
Australian Times A weekly newspaper of around 16 pages providing as it says on the cover ‘News for Aussies living in London’. News and sport from Down Under plus travel features.
New Zealand Times Stable mate of the Aussies Times and does the same service for Kiwis.
South African A bigger paper than the two above, it claims 105,000 readers a week and gives news, sport and lifestyle stories for South Africans plus travel information.
The Canada Post 24 pages with hardly any ads, a monthly paper with news for Canadians in the UK.
London Lite The Evening Standard’s daily afternoon free paper, they produce Metro in the mornings which is also free. A tabloid of almost 50 pages with news, entertainment reviews and sport.
West End Extra Local news for Covent Garden, Soho, Mayfair and Bayswater.
Venture A glossy magazine from travel company Kumuka, out three or four times a year.
Backpacker A slim magazine with a few stories and a lot of travel and entertainment ads.
LondonCareers.net Half ads, half office jobs
Trailfinder Seasonal magazine from the big travel company advertising their packages.
I think they’re are a few more floating around, at least it gives you something to read on the tube.
