Fright night

Its Halloween tonight but the trick or treat tradition is one that’s been recently imported to the UK, there was never anything done on Halloween when I was a kid, and somewhere along the way people have missed what kids should be doing when they get dressed up to go trick or treating.

I was in a pub last night when a group of kids, no older than about ten, came in in costume and went around every table shaking a bag of money, saying trick or treat and expecting to get some cash.
About fifteen minutes later in came another group doing exactly the same thing and a third bunch of older teenagers who said they were collecting for charity brought up the rear ten minutes later.

I think parents should realise that if kids want to trick or treat, do it on October 31st, don’t trawl pubs looking for money, go to neighbourhood houses and expect to get a handful of sweets, if you’re lucky.
