Feeling a little toasted right now after spending the afternoon in between the pub and the bookies watching the final day of the Cheltenham Festival. This is the highlight of the National Hunt(Steeplechasing) season, three days every March when all the best horses compete over one of the toughest courses.
As a sporting event its one of the biggest in Britain, a 160,000 sellout for three days and a huge number of these coming over from Ireland for the week, bringing their money and horses to take on the home side.
I’m not a big gambler or racing follower but Cheltenham is one of those events that sweeps up even the casual observer in the excitement it generates, also having a few quid on doesn’t hurt. It’s one of the events I’ve never been to yet but I really want to get down there one year, the crowd are definitely out for a good time and the craic is legendary.
All my bets blew out this afternoon but my Dad had three of the first four winners, including Best Mate the Gold Cup Winner, so he’s pretty happy. A lot of favourites came in this Cheltenham so the bookmakers took a bit of a beating which is pretty unusual and won’t get them much sympathy.
One things guaranteed , winners and losers and plenty more will all come back next year.

I’m sure no one in the Half Moon Winchmore Hill dared to change the channel on the tv.
Started off in the Orange Tree, had it on the big screen, then moved to the Moon.
