Home Secretary admits London’s streets not safe after dark

night.jpgThere was an interesting admission today in an interview with The Sunday Times by Jacqui Smith, Britain’s Home Secretary, that she wouldn’t feel safe walking the streets of London late at night, even if it was through some of the wealthiest areas like Kensington and Chelsea.

The Home Secretary is the member of the government in charge of policing and crime in the UK among other things, so its quite something to admit that after almost eleven years of this current Labour government you’re still not safe if you venture out at night. Of course she’s back tracked later today and says the streets are perfectly safe and will probably pull out reams of figures to support that, but visitors should take into account her interview and think about their safety when on a trip to London. If you’re travelling around late at night know your route, let someone know where you’re going and keep your wits about you.
