Another case of a former sportsman not knowing when to say when. 41 year old Frank Bruno wants to come out of retirement to fight Audley Harrison.
Bruno was the best (not saying much) British Heavyweight boxer of the 80’s and 90’s. 6′3, 240lbs, built like Arnie, not an ounce of fat, ‘like a slab of teak’ and just as mobile. The nation’s favourite loser. After getting pummeled by Tyson in their first fight, The Sun’s headline went something like ‘Brave Bruno Battles King Kong’. Before their rematch, Bruno crossed himself about 35 times between entering the arena and the first bell. Tyson killed him.
Harrison’s a big, 31 year old, former Olympic Gold medalist, who signed a 10 fight, mega bucks deal with the BBC and has fought a series of scraping the barrel bums. One guy was a pub landlord who hadn’t had a fight in over two years.
Bruno’s a much loved guy in Britain, but if he wins, ’so he beat a crap fighter’, and if he loses, he just looks really sad. Frank you had a good career, made lots of money, people love you, do yourself a favour and stay on the celebrity circuit.
