08 November - Om Shanti Om A big West End premiere for this new Bollywood extravaganza featuring a host of big name Indian film stars including Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Shilpa Shetty (well known in the UK for winning the show Celebrity Big Brother). The premiere takes place at the Empire Leicester Square and if half the stars in it turn up, it should draw a massive crowd of London Bollywood film fans.
11 November - Beowulf After the success of Lord of the Rings Hollywood continues its trawl through English literature and mythology for film ideas, the latest being a screen version of the classic Old English poem Beowulf, about the hero of the same name and his battles. It’s directed by Robert Zemeckis and stars Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone and John Malkovich, although its an animated, performance capture film (something like 300). The premiere’s at the Vue Cinema in Leicester Square, below is one of its trailers.
18 November - Sleuth Michael Caine starred opposite Lawrence Olivier in the original 1972 screen adaption of Anthony Shaffer’s successful play. 35 years later Caine takes the Olivier role while Jude Law takes his in this remake directed by Kenneth Branagh. The intricate plot centres on a cheating husband and his wife’s lover and the Odeon West End in Leicester Square hosts the London premiere.
19 November - Fred Claus Vince Vaughn stars as Santa Claus’s black sheep of the family brother Fred, a crooked repo man who Santa ends up bailing out of jail and persuades to return to the family business in time for Christmas. Also starring Paul Giamatti, Kevin Spacey and Kathy Bates, and directed by David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers, Shanghai Knights). Premiere’s at the Empire Leicester Square.
27 November - The Golden Compass Fantasy based on the children’s book Northern Lights by Philip Pullman, The Golden Compass stars Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Ian McKellen and Eva Green. The Odeon Leicester Square holds the premiere.
