New arrivals

The Home Office released the figures for the new workers who came to the UK from the new EU countries in the last year, 345,000 from eastern Europe and that wouldn’t surprise anybody who drives in and out of London any day of the week with the number of Polish and Lithuaian plates, and anybody who needs a plumber, carpenter, brickie etc is probably glad they’ve come.

The government must be a little surprised though. They were the only one in the European Union to allow the people of the seven new member countries to immediately be able to freely come and work, the rest put a seven year delay on it.
Tony Blair’s official line was they were expecting a maximum of 13,500 applications and everybody thought he was either stupid or giving out a line of bullshit. It was bullshit.

hey. i’ve been reading the blog for some time. good stuff indeed. I’m an ex pat living in London. Did you watch England vs Uraguay last night? Excellent excellent stuff. Although its still embarrasing that a non qualifying team took the match that far.

Watched the first half Matt, not a huge fan of these friendly games, never no how much effort teams are putting in.
