The British government is bringing in new proposals to cut the time visitors are allowed to stay in the UK on single visits from 6 to 3 months. The changes are directed at visitors from outside the European Union and are part of the Labour government’s belated attempt to get a grip on the tsunami of asylum seekers and illegal immigrants who’ve arrived in the country since Tony Blair took power ten years ago.
They are also talking about having families with a relative visiting put up a £1,000 bond and introducing new business visas. It seems to me like classic shambolic Labour, avoid tackling the real problem and instead penalize people on the periphery of it, this time legitimate tourists and travellers.
The thing the public is worried about and which is the big vote loser for the government is the hundreds of thousands of bogus asylum seekers who have swamped Britain in the last decade and Labour’s inability or refusal to deal with them. Just today its reported another 165,000 asylum seekers whose claims have been found to be false are going to be allowed to remain in the UK, bring over family members and get passports.
Fear of being politically incorrect means this Gordon Brown led government will forever skirt around the tough decisions and instead go for the headline grabbing moves like halving the time of regular tourist visas.
