Lots of talk about London bidding for the 2012 Olympics and what it’s going to cost. £4 billion is the latest estimate for building facilities and trying to get the transport to parts of east London where they want to stage it.
My problem is £4 billion now equals christ knows how much in ten years and the council tax payer of London picking up the tab like it or not. Transport right now is a mess, the roads are gridlocked and I can’t see it improving that much.
To me it’s an ego trip for politicians like Mayor Ken Livingstone and one more stop on the gravy train for the freeloading IOC members who’ll go round and round visiting the competing cities before they stick a greasy palm out. Spend the bid money on something worthwhile and enjoy the Olympics in Seville, Paris or New York.

I gotta greee with Chris on this one. There were some pretty heavy rumblings about the freebies the IOC members were getting while Sydney was bidding for the Olympics.
Other host-bid cities were accusing Sydney of some underhanded tactics and I would not be surprised if they were true, even if it was just sour grapes by the other cities cos they didn’t think to stoop that low.
I love watching the Olympics but what goes on behind closed doors with the fat cats that run it would make those tabloid stories seem tame.
I guess we’ll never know.
Yeah - that term “fat cat” sounds about right.
I think there’s something like 120 of these IOC members and they’re all living high on the hog. I sure as hell don’t want my taxes going to pay for their gift packages and endless cruising around the world.
London doesn’t need the Olypics, at least without Peter Ueberoth in charge. LA actually made money on the Olympics so it can be done if marketed correctly. I don’t expect Ken Livingstone to have the slightest clue how to work with business as he’s made a career out of being anti business.
London’s economy is heavily burdened with refugees and Londoners pay a high price for living there.
The Olympics should go elsewhere.

Ay Chris - it sounds cool - you know dude - like the olympics in london - but the freakin price is outrageous. Why don’t they spend that money on better infrastructure for business and education for da kids?
I know - I may not know what I am talking about here.
