The Security Service, MI5, could be about to be brought in to tackle the animal rights extremists.
About bloody time, these animal rights nutcases seem to have had a free hand for too long when it comes to intimidating and threatening people.
It was only about a month ago since the story of the village where the shops and pub used by a guy working in animal research were targeted with attack unless they stopped serving him and his family.
To me these animal rights protesters are unhinged, sad and lonely people, who think that the life of a rat or gerbil is worth more than a human.
They need locking away, for a long time.

Protesting is fine but these ‘lovers of all living things’ don’t mind dishing out a bit of violence when it comes to humans.
I once worked for a fish monger in London who was working hard to stay in business. Periodically he had his front window smashed by ‘animal rights’ people because he sold live crabs. I asked him if they would be happier if he killed them as soon as he got hold hold of them.

I think you’ve confused “protester” with “extremist.” An all too common mistake, and in fact, the reason why I would be less than thrilled about MI5 involvement. Certainly here in Canada, CSIS and RCMP surveilance of “extremists” includes far too many peaceful and reasonable people who happen to have non-mainstream or antiestablishment opinions.
