I’ve been busy around town this weekend with my old housemate Liz and her family from California, who have been on holiday in Paris and London.
Saturday afternoon they wanted to check out a football game and with the Premiership season not starting until mid August we ended up going to see QPR v Birmingham in a pre-season friendly.
QPR won 2-1 but the quality of football was what could be called ‘old fashioned English’, why waste time on a passing move when you can thump it forty yards in the general direction of the other teams goal.
‘It’s not like watching Mexico’ said Liz. Absolutely not.
They also have some real jobsworths working at Loftus Road. Before kickoff myself and Liz’s husband went to the bar to get a beer. The girl behind the bar poured one pint and started pulling the other when one of the managers came running up and told her to stop.
She’d pulled half a pint but he said it was ten to three and the police would close the place if they served any more.
‘Can’t she finish that one’ we said. No way, so we ended up with one and a half pints watching the warm up on the close-circuit tv because you can’t take beer to your seats.
A minute later off go the tv’s and its ‘everybody out’, so we ended up having to drink our beer outside by the gates.
They know how to look after the cutstomers at QPR.
