The war moves up a gear

Just sitting here after dinner watching Baghdad get bombed, it’s almost unbelieveable how modern warfare gets delivered to the viewer now.
I don’t even have cable with rolling news channels like Sky or Fox but the stations I do get are dominated with live broadcasts from the ‘front’.

At this moment live pictures from Baghdad with air raid sirens blaring, incoming missiles and bombs expected any minute.
I was listening to the radio at work today and there were continual reports, 9am ‘B52’s at RAF Fairford have started their engines’, 10am ‘eight B52’s have taken off’,4pm ‘the B52’s should be reaching the point where they can release their cruise missiles’, get home and switch on the news and the missiles are shown hitting their targets.

It’s hard to imagine an old fashioned, drawn out war happening now, with the upfront, in your face coverage the public at home just wouldn’t put up with it if the casualties mounted on almost live tv.

With luck the Iraqi’s will realise they haven’t got a cat in hell’s chance and will surrender pretty quick, if not the awesome American firepower will just take them apart.

Public opinion here seems to be swinging around to Tony Blair, although there’s another anti-war demo in Hyde Park tomorrow. While there might be some people on these marches who have genuine feelings that this war is wrong, to me there’s too many of the leftwing Socialist Worker types who are just anti-Amercian to the core, the muslim activists who think everything is a giant conspiracy against Islam and others from the rent-a-mob circle who are just waiting for things to kick off.

Britain has already lost 14 servicemen. It will be interesting to see once street fighting takes place how how many dead we can rake up and how public opinion reacts to this.
